Art integrated education:

Teaching Subject in collaboration with art (dance, music, art , Drama)

Why is Art integration necessary in education?

  1. Helps the child to apply art based enquiry, investigation and exploration
  2. Develops critical thinking & creativity for deeper understanding of concepts of particular topic.
  3. Experiential learning: learning by doing
  4. Joyful learning
  5. Develop communication skills,
  6. Learn to appreciate each other
  7. Build Self esteem and lead to higher level of confidence
  8. Broadens the mind of student and enables to see multi disciplinary links between subjects/ topics/ real life

NCF 2005, 4 guiding principals for educations

  1. Connecting knowledge to life outside the school.
  2. Ensuring that learning shift away from rote methods
  3. Enriching the curriculum so that it goes beyond text books
  4. Making examination more flexible and integrated them with classroom life
  5. Nurturing an overriding identity informed by caring concerns within the democratic polity of the country.

Mandatory Art Education in CBSE SCHOOL

2 periods per week (INTEGRATED ART CLASS)

Culinary Art form:  (FOR grade 6 to 8)

learn the value of nutritious food, learn about the crops and spices grown in India, about how oil is extracted from various seeds, about good agricultural practices, pesticides use, etc.

Art must be integrated with the  teaching  and  learning  process of all academic subjects from classes 1 to 12

 

In order to make our teachers understand Integrated Art Education, we can do the following activities during our staff meetings.

AN EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING CLASS ACTIVITY

  • Your chit has the name of the product that you need to sell to the rest of the participant.
  • In your respective groups, initiate a discussion about the methods that you will use to sell it.
  • Create an attractive poster advertising the product,
  • Prepare a Jingle (a four lined poem) to make your product attractive (IT COULD BE SUNG AS WELL)
  • Mention the Aim of this LESSON/ ACTIVITY

 

  • Think of the subject that could be integrated through this activity
  • What could be the possible learning outcomes?
  • What skills could be developed through this activity

 

AN EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING CLASS ACTIVITY (SOCIAL STUDIES)

TOPIC: ELECTION

  • Form a political party
  • Give suitable name to your party and choose a symbol.
  • Select the leader of your party.
  • Prepare a manifesto of around 5 points.
  • Select 2 people to campaign for your party, with appropriate slogans.
  • Design poster with your election symbols, to attract the people.
  • Each group will be given 5 minutes to campaign for their party.
  • The election commissioner will conduct a mock election.
  • The winner will be declared on the basis of voice vote.
  • Mention the Subjects touched (interdisciplinary elements)
